What to Expect on Your First Visit

Before your appointment

Once you book, we’ll send online intake forms for you to complete at your convenience. These help Teresa (Remedial Therapist) understand your health history and what you’d like to focus on during your session. If you can, arrive 5-10 minutes early so you can settle in, and we can help with any remaining paperwork.

What to wear

Please wear soft, comfortable clothing to your appointment. During your session, you’ll wear your underwear and be professionally draped with towels at all times, with only the area being worked on uncovered for comfort and privacy.

Your initial consultation

Teresa will begin by discussing your health history, areas of tension or discomfort, daily activities, and what you’d like to get out of your visit. If appropriate, she may also check movement and posture to better understand what may be contributing to the tightness you’re feeling.

During your session

You’ll have regular pressure check-ins, and you’re always welcome to speak up if you’d like the pressure adjusted. Teresa may use a range of approaches depending on your preferences and what you’re hoping to address, such as deep tissue work, myofascial techniques, trigger point work, or gentler relaxation-based techniques.

Massage Options Available

Appointments are personal to you, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on your goals and comfort level, Teresa may incorporate options such as:

  • Deep Tissue Massage: Focuses on deeper muscle layers and may help with persistent tightness and restricted movement.
  • Myofascial Techniques: Gentle, sustained pressure that may help ease feelings of tension and support freer movement.
  • Trigger Point Techniques: Works on tender “knot” areas that may refer discomfort, with the aim of easing tightness.
  • Relaxation Massage: A gentler style designed to support relaxation and calm.
  • Sports Massage: Often chosen by active people to support training, recovery routines, and muscle comfort.
  • Pregnancy Massage: Adapted for comfort during pregnancy and may help with everyday aches and tension (with appropriate modifications).
  • Lymphatic-Style Massage: Light-pressure techniques that some people find helpful for comfort and relaxation, especially when feeling puffy or heavy.
  • Reflexology: Gentle pressure techniques focused on relaxation and overall comfort.

After Your Appointment

Some people notice mild tenderness or fatigue after a session, especially when areas have been very tight. Gentle movement, hydration, and taking it easy can help you feel more comfortable afterwards.

Teresa will also share practical, personalised aftercare suggestions based on how your body responded on the day. If anything doesn’t feel right for you, or symptoms persist, it’s a good idea to check in with your GP.

Who This Service May Suit

Remedial massage may be a helpful option if you’re dealing with muscle tightness, feeling stiff, sitting for long hours, training regularly, or simply wanting more ease in your day-to-day movement. Many people also book massage as part of their general self-care routine.

If you have a complex health history, a new injury, or you’re unsure whether massage is right for you, we recommend speaking with your GP first.

Common Reasons People Book Remedial Massage

Everyone’s experience is different, but people often seek remedial massage to support relaxation, stress reduction, tight or overworked muscles, general stiffness, post-exercise recovery support, and more comfortable movement for daily life. Your session will be guided by how you feel on the day and what you’re comfortable with.
