Pregnancy Chiropractic in Mackay

touching pregnants tummyPregnancy brings with it so many emotions—excitement, anticipation, and sometimes, discomfort. As your body works hard to grow and nourish a new life, you may notice aches and pains along the way. At Move It Chiropractic, we’re here to support you through each stage of this special time, helping you feel comfortable, balanced, and well.

Support Before, During, and After Baby Arrives

Many mums-to-be begin care before pregnancy to prepare their bodies for the months ahead. Pre-conception visits help improve balance, spinal alignment, and movement, creating an ideal foundation to support both you and your future baby.

New Clients

First Trimester

During the first trimester, as hormones shift and your body starts adapting, you may notice pelvic discomfort, nausea, or general tension.

Potential benefits may include:

  • Pelvic comfort support
  • Reduced general tension
  • Support through early changes

Second Trimester

In the second trimester, as the baby grows, postural changes and extra strain on your joints can lead to back pain, hip tightness, or difficulty sleeping.

Potential benefits may include:

Third Trimester

In the third trimester, as the baby continues to grow, your posture and pelvis may feel under even more strain, with ongoing back pain, hip tightness, and sleep disruption.

Potential benefits may include:

  • Pelvic and postural support
  • Reduced joint strain
  • Help with hip tightness
  • Improved comfort for rest

We also care for mums after their babies are born. The so-called “fourth trimester” is just as demanding, and caring for a newborn often leads to new challenges such as neck, shoulder, or back tension from feeding, lifting, and less sleep. We’re here to help you recover and adapt.

Gentle Techniques, A Thoughtful Touch

Every mum’s needs are different. That’s why we tailor each visit to suit your body, your baby, and your goals. We often use techniques such as the Webster method to help balance the pelvis and ease tension—supporting pelvic alignment and comfort as your body changes during pregnancy.

We may also include complementary therapies like massage and dry needling where appropriate. We aim to support your comfort, movement, and nervous system function as your body changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to start chiropractic during pregnancy?

You are welcome to begin care at any stage. Many mums find that the earlier they start, the more comfortable they feel throughout pregnancy.

Will chiropractic hurt my baby or me?

Not at all. Adjustments during pregnancy are always gentle and adapted to suit your changing body. Many mums comment on how relaxing they find the visits.

Does this help the baby too?

Yes, supporting your spinal and pelvic alignment may give your baby more space to move and settle into an ideal position as you approach birth.

Can chiropractic care help relieve pregnancy-related back or pelvic pain?

Chiropractic care may help reduce pregnancy-related back or pelvic discomfort by addressing musculoskeletal tension and supporting pelvic alignment. Many women seek care during pregnancy to feel more comfortable as their body changes, although individual experiences and outcomes can vary.

Is it safe to see a chiropractor during pregnancy?

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is adapted to your stage of pregnancy and individual needs. Chiropractors may use gentle, low-force techniques designed for comfort. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or any concerns, it’s important to speak with your healthcare provider before starting care.

What chiropractic techniques are used for pregnant patients (e.g., Webster Technique)?

Chiropractors may use a range of gentle techniques during pregnancy, depending on your needs:

  • Webster Technique: A specific chiropractic approach focused on the pelvis, sacrum, and surrounding ligaments, aiming to reduce tension and support pelvic balance.
  • Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT): A low-force method that uses cushioned, wedge-shaped blocks placed under the pelvis, allowing gravity to assist positioning and support alignment.
  • Activator Method: Uses a small handheld instrument to deliver precise, low-force adjustments without twisting movements.

These approaches are selected and modified based on your comfort and stage of pregnancy.

At what stage of pregnancy should I start chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care may begin before pregnancy while trying to conceive, or at any stage throughout pregnancy. Your care plan is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

Are there any conditions where chiropractic care is not recommended during pregnancy?

In some situations, chiropractic care may not be appropriate, particularly in certain high-risk pregnancy conditions. These may include unexplained vaginal bleeding, placenta-related complications (such as placenta previa or abruption), severe pre-eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, signs of preterm labour, or ruptured membranes.

If you are unsure whether chiropractic care is suitable for you, it’s important to consult your healthcare provider before beginning treatment.

Can chiropractic care help with baby positioning?

Chiropractic care focuses on supporting pelvic balance and reducing musculoskeletal tension during pregnancy. While some women seek care with this in mind, chiropractic does not directly position the baby, and outcomes can vary.
